PC*MILER|Rail-TCP/IP is a cross-platform communication tool that provides access to PC*MILER|Rail-Connect.

PC*MILER|Rail-TCP/IP is an integration tool that provides an interface to PC*MILER|Rail-Connect running in a Windows environment to an application residing on another platform. Through a TCP/IP network, client applications can access a text-based interface to call PC*MILER|Rail-Connect's features and functionality. The interface opens cross platform communications in a thread-safe manner, giving you the flexibility to transmit the output of PC*MILER|Rail-Connect to multiple networks within your organization. General Requirements

  • PC*MILER|Rail-Connect must be installed prior to running the PC*MILER|Rail-TCP/IP Interface
  • The interface requires a command-line parameter and a unique port number to listen to
  • The interface is text- based and mimics the corresponding PC*MILER products syntax.  ALK does not provide any software/hardware for the client (UNIX/VMS etc.) side of the interface.
  • NOTE: PC*MILER|Rail-Mapping functionalities are not supported via TCP/IP interface

Hardware Requirements

  • PC with a 1.5-2 GHz processor and TCP/IP capability
  • UNIX or other host with TCP/IP capability
  • Physical Connection (cable)
  • 2 MB hard disk space

Software Requirements

  • Windows 2003 or XP and any other computer running TCP/IP
  • Windows Servers (Terminal Servers, Server 2003, Server 2008 – including Server 2008 R2 running in 32-bit compatibility mode as well as support for 64-bit native applications on Windows 2008 R2)
  • Client software on the UNIX host (sample PERL application provided)
  • PC*MILER|Rail-Connect versions 15 or higher

Environment

  • Stand-alone or networked personal computers (LANs and Server/Thin Client Networks), and any other computer running TCP/IP
